Our goal is to create the Amy Sevier Professional Attire endowment fund so that there will be an ongoing source of funds to keep this program alive and vibrant- all in Amy's name and honor. Once a total of $25,000 has been raised, the contributions will be used to establish this endowment.
Amy Sevier, who passed away in May of 2023, was a much respected and much beloved professor, mentor, colleague, and friend in the College of Business and Economic Development. During her 27-year career, she taught over 9,000 students, leaving behind a huge legacy.
Amy had a heart for students and student success. One of her most favorite projects was the Professional Attire Fund. She was a faithful and consistent donor to the fund for years, allowing numerous Southern Miss students to be able to afford their first professional business suit. This allowed these students to do well in their interviews and start their careers on a positive foot. And, for those who knew Amy, knew that she was a great dresser herself!
Some quotes from former students:
"Professor Sevier was an incredible mentor that took time to invest not only in her student's education but also their personal lives and goals. Her patience, leadership, and drive assisted me in writing an honor's thesis that not only passed but left a lasting impression on me about hard work and achievement." Laura Kirkman Tramell (class of 2017).
"Ms. Sevier was a shining example of what every professor, educator, and mentor should aspire to be. She was dedicated to USM and her students, and she combined her sharp intellect and academic rigor with immense compassion for those fortunate enough to sit under her instruction." David Jordan (class of 2017).
