Meet Myles, the newest member of The University of Southern Mississippi Police Department!
Myles, an explosive detection canine from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, was recently donated to UPD.
The ten-month-old Belgian Malinois will sweep Southern Miss facilities prior to large-scale events on campus, such as sporting events and commencement ceremonies. Aside from the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, no other law enforcement agency in the Greater Pine Belt has a canine of this caliber.
UPD was able to launch this long-awaited program through an anonymous donation of the canine and a commitment from Jim and Sue Gallaspy for training and ongoing care.
Beyond providing training for Myles and covering the cost of her ongoing care, additional areas of need remain to progress UPD’s canine program, such as the need for a police vehicle fitted for a canine officer. Your gift will help support UPD and its canine unit as they work to ensure the safety of the Southern Miss community.
Thank you for your consideration!
