The Southern Misses Dance Team includes a select group of talented individuals who represent The University of Southern Mississippi. As a Southern Miss Spirit Squad, the Southern Misses' primary focus is to support Southern Miss Athletics as well as increasing fan support within the Hattiesburg area. The Southern Misses strive to generate a relationship between the local community and Southern Miss Athletics.
The Southern Misses have been working hard to find new ways to support the Golden Eagle basketball teams. With a larger team of 21 members, we are in need of new uniforms this season. Our goal for this project also includes expenses we anticipate in future seasons. Our main goal for every season is to expand our team and further our support of all USM teams and organizations. The team would like to thank everyone in advance for their continuous support! #SMTTT
The Southern Misses made their first game day debut in 1987 as a new addition to the Spirit Squad team (1991 team pictured above), and since then, the team has been at every home basketball game.
A focus of the Southern Misses is giving back to the Hattiesburg community. Pictured on the left is the current 2018/2019 team working a Summer Tunes event downtown. Pictured on the right is the 2015/2016 team packing and delivering boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
The Southern Misses also love to inspire upcoming dancers and athletes by hosting camps for ages 5-18. Our elementary school level camp involves a fun on-court experience where the children perform. Our high school level camp is more focused on recruiting future members and also includes an on-court performance.
The Southern Misses have been cheering on the Golden Eagles for 31 years!
With an average of two dances per game and 35 games per season, our team performs a total of 70 times per season.
